Fake News - Lesson 4 (Planning a fake news images)
Overview: In this lesson pupils plan their own fake news story and search for free to use / creative commons images to create their fake image.

Remind pupils to be safe and responsible when searching for images online. (Where appropriate, re-enforce any school/classroom rules for when searching for images online).
Plenary:
Ask for volunteers to share their ‘fake news’ ideas with the rest of the class.

Learning Objectives:
- To be able to plan and design for a fake news story.
Starter:
- Share some examples of viral photoshopped images sourced from the web, for example, Photoshopped pilot selfies, frozen Venice, photoshopped College of Architecture and Planning image, photoshopped magical castle, bear chasing a cyclist, or cow chilling on a car.).
- Ask the pupils to list the tools / techniques that were used to create these images. Draw out answers such as: Lasso tool, eraser, cropping, background removal, overlay etc.
Main:
- Inform the pupils that their challenge is to create their own ‘fake news’ image. Give some examples such as: Loch Ness monster spotted in school pond, T-rex spotted raiding school bins etc.
- Put the pupils into pairs and share copies of the planning worksheet (Planning_Workheet_1). Challenge the pupils to brainstorm an idea for a ‘fake’ image. Inform the pupils that, once they have come up with an idea for their fake image, they can start to search for creative commons images to use in their project. Instruct pupils to record the details of each image they find (URL, description of image, CC licence) in the table provided (Planning_Workheet_2).
